Noel Manzano Gómez is an architect (University of Valladolid, Spain), Bachelor and Master in Sociology (Université Paris 8) and PhD in Urban History by the Marie Curie ITN UrbanHist (co-tutelle between Bauhaus University of Weimar-University of Valladolid). He has done research stays in France, Germany, Brazil, and Portugal, and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He is currently working on a comparative history of informal urbanization in Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon during the last decades of the 20th century and up to the present. In it, he tries to understand both the historical evolution of this process and to analyze in comparative and micro-geographical terms the neighborhood negotiations to define the urban fabric of favelas and bairros clandestinos.
