Simone Tulumello is assistant research professor (investigador auxiliar) in human geography at the University of Lisbon, Institute of Social Sciences. At the crossroads of human geography, critical urban studies and political economy, Simone is interested in the multi-scalar dimensions of urbanization, with focus on urban security and violence, housing policy and politics, urban imaginaries, and urbanization in the semi-periphery. His appointments include: Fulbright Research Scholar at the University of Memphis (2016); Policy Fellow at the B. Hook Institute for Social Change of the University of Memphis (2016-2017); visiting scholar at the Polytechnic of Turin (2019), the University Federico II of Naples (2021) and CEUR-Conicet in Buenos Aires (2022); Sub-area Expert for the New European Bauhaus (European Commission; 2023); deputy editor-in-chief of Análise Social (2021-). Among his books: Urban Violence: Security, Imaginary, Atmosphere (with Andrea Pavoni; 2023, Lexington), Habitação além da “crise”: políticas, conflito, direito (2024; Tigre de Papel) and Fear, Space and Urban Planning: A Critical Perspective from Southern Europe (2017; Springer).
